Cookies

This policy is intended to inform you about why we use “cookies,” what they do, and the choices you have regarding their use.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files generated by a request from your browser to our web server and stored on your device. Typically, their purpose is to identify your device and its behavior when visiting our websites.

There are two types of cookies—persistent and temporary (session) cookies:

  • Session cookies are stored temporarily on your computer while you visit our Site, and are deleted the moment you close the webpage.
  • Persistent cookies remain stored as a file on your computer or mobile device for a longer period of time.

With the exception of cookies necessary for our Site’s functioning, we only store cookies on your device with your consent. If you do not wish to accept cookies, you can adjust your browser settings—more information on this can be found at the end of this document.

If you prefer not to receive cookies while browsing our website, you may refuse them by setting your internet browser to warn you before it accepts a cookie or to refuse cookies when your browser alerts you to their presence. You can also refuse all cookies by disabling them in your browser settings. Please note that disabling cookies may affect the functionality of this website and many other websites you visit. Disabling cookies will typically also disable certain features of our Site.

How to delete cookies

You will know when and whether your browser receives cookies, as it will notify you upon your first visit. Thus, you have the opportunity to accept or refuse a particular cookie.

Your browser can be configured to reject all cookies. If you would like to learn how to do this, please visit:

Please note that changing your browser settings to disable cookies may prevent our Site from functioning properly.

You can choose which cookies to allow or block by visiting the settings pages of your particular browser:

Strictly Necessary Cookies

Certain cookies are essential for us to securely provide our services through the webpage. This category includes, for example:

  • Cookies that identify or authenticate our users;
  • Cookies that temporarily store specific user data (e.g., content of an online form);
  • Cookies that store certain user preferences (e.g., search settings or language settings);
  • Cookies that store data to ensure seamless playback of video or audio content.

Analytical Cookies

We use analytical cookies to record user behavior (e.g., clicks on ad banners, search queries) and to statistically evaluate these actions.

Advertising Cookies

We also use cookies for advertising purposes. User behavior profiles created with these cookies (e.g., clicks on ad banners, visited subpages, entered search queries) are used to show you ads or offers tailored to your interests (“interest-based advertising”).

Third-Party Advertising Cookies

We also allow other companies to evaluate our users’ data through advertising cookies. This allows us and third parties to display interest-based ads to users of our website, which are based on the analysis of your usage behavior (e.g., clicks on ad banners, visited subpages, search queries). Such advertising is not limited to our online services.

Referral Cookies

Our referral tracking partners set cookies on your computer (“referral cookie”) if you reached our website through an advertisement from a particular partner. These cookies typically expire after 30 days. If you visit certain pages hosted by us and the cookie has not yet expired, we and the relevant referral tracking partner can see that a specific user clicked on the ad and was referred to our page. The information collected through the referral cookie is used to create referral statistics and to determine the total number of users who clicked on the corresponding ad and were directed to a page with a referral tracking tag.

Web Analytics

We require statistical information about the use of our webpage to make it more user-friendly, to perform reach measurements, and to conduct market research.

For this purpose, we use the web analytics tools described in this section. The user profiles created by these tools using analytical cookies or log file analysis do not contain personal data. These tools either do not use your IP address at all or immediately shorten it upon collection.

The providers of these tools process data solely as data processors following our instructions, not for their own purposes.

Below you will find information about each tool provider and how to object to the collection and processing of personal data via these tools.

Please note that for tools using opt-out cookies, the opt-out function is device- or browser-specific and therefore valid only for the specific device or browser in use. If you use multiple devices or browsers, you will need to enable the opt-out function on each device and in each browser used.

Moreover, in general, you can prevent the creation of user profiles by disabling the use of cookies in your browser settings.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is offered by Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA (“Google”). We use Google Analytics with the IP anonymization feature provided by Google. Google shortens IP addresses within the EU and only in exceptional cases in the USA; in both cases, only shortened IP addresses are recorded.

You can object to the collection and processing of your data by downloading and installing the browser plug-in available at this link:
